David Blackard
Library Program Supervisor
Since 2007, I have been pleased to help provide tribal members comprehensive access to information for their educational and enrichment needs through the Tribe’s Library Program. I wholeheartedly agree with the Library slogan that states, “Start here, go anywhere.”
Having lived in south Florida since 1953, I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t interested in the History and Culture of the Florida Seminole. Thus, it was an honor to earlier serve the Seminole Tribe of Florida on the Tribe’s Museum Project working for the late Billy L. Cypress; first acting as the museum’s first curator and later as the Museum Director. Patchwork and Palmettos: Seminole Miccosukee Folk Art since 1820, is my one contribution to Seminole scholarship.
I am thankful to have such a fulfilling and rewarding career that allows me to share my passion for reading and inspiring discovery, learning and cultural expression. I love the work. It is a wonderful feeling to help people find the information they need and books that they love. We are fortunate to have libraries on the Brighton, Big Cypress, Hollywood and Immokalee reservations to serve our tribal members. Everyone’s favorite genius, Albert Einstein, famously said, “The only thing you absolutely have to know is the location of the Library!” We are easy to find. Come and visit us!
